Personal touch and smart software keys to success for NSW rehabilitation provider
Occupational rehabilitation provider Hoys Work Health believes a hands-on and local approach to getting clients back to work is best, with its Coffs Coast-based team caring for injured locals in person rather than remotely over the phone.
Software system Case Manager is the one outsider allowed on the team because of its ability to handle all the behind-the-scenes case management details and give Hoys’ Work Health professionals more time to focus on delivering award-winning care to their clients.
Larissa Davidson, General Manager of Hoys Work Health, says the company is different to the other occupational rehabilitation providers because it works directly with local employers rather than being referred by workplace compensation insurers.
This direct connection gives Hoys a deeper relationship with employers and leads to more work on injury prevention, leading to proactive conversations with employers about their workplace health and safety strategies to help prevent injuries in the first place, Larissa says.
“The employers we work for are focussed on the wellbeing of their workforce.”
Larissa says the team’s work is made simpler and more efficient by Case Manager. The platform makes it easy for Hoys Work Health’s six rehabilitation consultants to issue emails, drag and drop documents to update case files, and create customised views so they can see all the client details they need on one screen.
“Case Manager is a simple system to learn and use – it allows us to be really efficient in our roles.”
Larissa says it’s crucial to be able to provide clients with clear quotes for the different rehabilitation services Hoys Work Health offers and manage the separate costs involved, making Case Manager’s estimate and cost tracking functionality vital.
She says the system’s reporting function makes it a breeze to comply with the State Insurance Regulatory Authority legislative requirements as well as providing auditing data.
Hoys Work Health has been using Case Manager since 2016, but Larissa has been using it for a lot longer. She says she’s impressed with how the software has continually evolved over the years.
“They’re always updating and improving it – the Case Manager I use now is very different from the Case Manager I first used 15 years ago.
“From a manager’s point of view, it provides visibility into what’s going on for the consultants in terms of their workloads, what type of cases they’re handling, and progression of cases at every stage from the injury itself through to when the client resumes workplace duties.
“Case Manager gives you oversight that you don’t have with other systems because the information is all there at your fingertips. Whatever you want to know about a case you can create a column that provides you with the information quickly.”
Larissa says Hoys is family-owned and operates on the Coffs Coast between Taree and Lismore. The company’s motto is “local people, local knowledge, local support” and the team goes to great lengths to make sure they can maintain a personal touch to rehabilitating and assessing clients with a hands-on approach.
“Our industry is called workplace rehabilitation, and we believe the rehabilitation should occur in the workplace, rather than happening over the phone.”
Their strong relationship with employers ensures Hoys is alerted when a workplace injury occurs, instead of weeks or months after the incident happened, enabling early intervention which tends to lead to more successful rehabilitation, she says.
“There’s evidence out there that a good rehabilitation provider is going to drive good return-to-work outcomes and reduce the costs associated with claims, saving companies money on insurance premiums and caring for their staff better.”
Larissa says Hoys Work Health’s proactive approach to workplace rehabilitation, together with Case Manager supporting its team to deliver expert rehabilitation services, is driving business growth and helping the company gain recognition and a formidable reputation for client care.
At the end of last year Hoys Work Health received top honours at Coffs Harbour Chamber of Commerce’s Coffs Coast Business Awards, taking out the Professional Services Award, while its Allied Health and Wellness division netted the Training and Development Award.
No stranger to the Coffs Coast Business Awards, Hoys previously snagged four of their accolades in 2021: Employer of Choice, Excellence in Business, Outstanding Young Business Leader, and Business of the Year.
It’s amazing to get recognition from the community that our team is doing a great job because the work they do is so important, Larissa says.
“Injury or illness has a profound impact on our clients – we have the ability to make a big difference by supporting them at a really difficult time of their lives.”
